WBCS 2024 Exam Overview
The WBCS (Exe.) Examination consists of:
1. Written Examination
- Preliminary Examination (MCQ type)
- Main Examination (MCQ + Descriptive)
2. Personality Test
- Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination will be called for the Personality Test.
- The exam acts as a combined competitive recruitment test for four groups of services: Group A, B, C, and D.
WBCS Eligibility Criteria 2025
Who Can Apply: Eligibility Criteria
- Must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university (any stream — pass, honours, engineering, or distance education).
- Must be able to read, write, and speak Bengali.
(Candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali are exempted from this condition.) - Must be an Indian citizen (by birth or registration) or otherwise eligible under Government of India rules.
WBCS 2024 Prelims Exam Centres

Special Centre Rules
- Only ST candidates of Darjeeling district + candidates from Darjeeling Sadar, Mirik, and Kurseong
→ Must appear at Darjeeling Centre. - All candidates of Kalimpong district
→ Must appear at Kalimpong Centre.

WBCS Exam Pattern 2024
The WBCS Exam Pattern 2025 includes three stages: Preliminary, Mains, and Interview. The Prelims is an objective test of 200 marks. The Mains has six compulsory papers and optional subjects for Groups A & B. Finally, a Personality Test assesses candidates’ overall suitability for administrative roles.

The WBCS salary follows the 7th Pay Commission structure and includes Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Medical Allowance (MA), pension, and other perks.
