The GATE 2027 Notification has been released. The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), which is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2027, released the GATE 2027 Information Brochure (Release Version 1.1) on July 23, 2026. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level exam conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
GATE 2027 will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for 30 test papers. The online application process has been began on August 27, 2026. Candidates who wish to appear for GATE 2027 should carefully check the eligibility criteria, exam pattern, application process, and other important details given below.

GATE 2027 Highlights
Candidates should keep the following important points in mind for GATE 2027:
- IIT Madras is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2027. The official website is gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
- GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 test papers, and the syllabus for all papers has been revised.
- A new paper, Robotics and Automation (RA), has been introduced this year.
- Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) has been merged with the XE sectional paper as XE9.
- The paper codes for the XE, XH and XL sectional papers have been revised.
- All GATE 2027 question papers will be available in English only.
- The exam will include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
- Candidates can appear for one or two test papers, subject to the approved two-paper combinations.
- There is no age limit for appearing in GATE 2027.
- During registration, candidates must provide their live facial details. Verified DigiLocker registration is recommended for a smoother application process.
- GATE 2027 will be conducted in more than 300 cities across India.
How to Apply for GATE 2027?
Candidates can apply for GATE 2027 only through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) available on the official GATE website. Candidates should follow the steps below to complete the application process:
Step 1: Visit the official GATE 2027 website and open the GOAPS portal.
Step 2: Register using a valid email ID and mobile number and provide the required live facial details.
Step 3: Log in to your account and enter your personal, academic and category details.
Step 4: Select your preferred test paper. Candidates can choose either one paper or two papers from the approved two-paper combinations.
Step 5: Select up to three examination cities from the same GATE zone.
Step 6: Upload the required documents, including your photograph, signature and valid photo ID such as Aadhaar-UID, Aadhaar Virtual ID, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID or Driving Licence. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories and candidates with Dyslexia should also upload the relevant certificates, wherever applicable.
Step 7: Pay the application fee online using one of the available payment methods.
Step 8: Carefully check all the details entered in the application form before submitting it.
Step 9: Submit the application form and save the confirmation page for future reference.

GATE 2027 Eligibility
Candidates must meet the required educational qualifications before applying for GATE 2027. The eligibility criteria are given below:
- Candidates who are studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th semester or higher, or have completed M.B.B.S., B.D.S., B.V.Sc. or B.Sc. in Agriculture, Horticulture or Forestry, are also eligible.
- Candidates with certification from recognised professional bodies such as the Institution of Engineers (India), Institution of Civil Engineers, IETE, Aeronautical Society of India, IIChE, IIM and IIIE can apply, provided their certification is recognised as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Planning by the MoE, AICTE, UGC or UPSC.
- Candidates pursuing or holding a qualifying degree from outside India must be studying in the 3rd year or higher or must have completed a Bachelor’s degree of at least three years in a relevant field.
- There is no age limit for appearing in GATE 2027.

GATE 2027 Marking Scheme
- Each question carries either 1 mark or 2 marks.
- Negative marking is applicable only for MCQ questions.
- For an incorrect 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted.
- For an incorrect 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted.
- There is no negative marking for MSQ and NAT questions.
- There is no partial marking for any question.
- PwD candidates are eligible for 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour.
