The Paris Olympics 2024 and Paralympic Games will be the largest event ever held in France. The Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024, when Paris becomes the center of the world. The Olympic Games are a popular, multicultural celebration shared by many people around the world and represent a new adventure for France that it has never experienced before.

India’s representation

India will be represented by 117 athletes, their second-largest contingent at the Olympics. Five of the seven medalists from the Tokyo Olympics will try to make India proud in the French capital. The contingent of Indian athletes will take part in the Olympic Games in Paris from July 26. In this, only 2 Indian athletes will participate in two individual events.

Indian viewers can watch the event on Sports18 and Jio Cinema. The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics will begin with a grand event on the River Seine on Friday, July 26.

India has participated in how many sports in the Olympics?

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has said that India has sent 117 athletes to participate in 16 of the 32 sports being contested.

 Paris Olympics Motto 2024

The new Olympic motto is now written in Latin as “Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communitar” and in English as “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together”. The change adds the word “together” after “faster, higher, stronger”.

Key figures from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The XXXIII Olympiad will be held from 26 July to 11 August 2024. The 19-day competition will see handball, football and rugby kick off on 24 July. With 329 events in total, athletes from more than 200 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team will participate. The competition will feature 32 sports, including 4 additional sports. A total of 754 sessions (competitions and ceremonies) will be held, with approximately 10,500 athletes taking part. The event will certainly be remembered as a unique and massive sports festival.

Paris 2024 has taken advantage of the opportunity provided by the IOC in Olympic Agenda 2020 to propose additional sports to enhance its programme and overall concept. Paris 2024 submitted its proposal to the IOC to integrate four additional sports associated with young people and rewarding creativity and athletic performance. These sports are breaking (making its Olympic debut), sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing. All four are easy to adopt and participants form communities that are very active on social media.

Athletes from Russia and Belarus will not attend the opening ceremony

The International Olympic Committee has said that Russian and Belarusian athletes will not take part in the Paris opening ceremony. Athletes from both countries are banned following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, but individual players can compete neutrally in Paris. The IOC said they would not be part of the opening ceremony “because they are individual athletes, but will be provided with an opportunity to experience the event”.
Paris 2024 Mascot – Olympic Phrygian

The Paris 2024 mascot

The Paris 2024 mascot is named Olympic Phrygian, based on the traditional small Phrygian caps whose shape the mascots are modelled on. The name and design were chosen as a symbol of freedom and to represent symbolic figures of the French Republic.

Description

The Olympic Phrygian takes the shape and form of a Phrygian cap. As Paris 2024 aims to demonstrate that sport can change lives, the mascot will play a key role by leading a revolution through sport. The Olympic Phrygian is decked out in blue, white and red – the colours of France’s famous tricolour flag – and bears the Paris 2024 logo in gold on its chest.
