The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) conducts the West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) Exam every year. This exam has three stages: the Preliminary Exam, the Main Exam, and the Interview. Before applying, candidates must check the WBCS eligibility criteria.
The WBCS Prelims 2024 exam is scheduled for 7th September 2025. The WBPSC will release the WBCS 2024 notification in November 2025, and it will be available for download here. Last year, WBPSC conducted the WBCS Main Exam for the 2023 cycle.

WBCS Eligibility Criteria 2025
Basic Requirements
- The candidate must be a citizen of India (by birth or registration).
- The candidate must be physically and mentally fit for government service.
- The candidate must be able to read, write, and speak Bengali, except for those whose mother tongue is Nepali.
Age Limit
- For Group A & C: Minimum 21 years, Maximum 36 years (as of January 1, 2025).
- For Group B: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 36 years (as of January 1, 2025).
- For Group D: Minimum 21 years, Maximum 39 years (as of January 1, 2025).
- The age mentioned in the Madhyamik (10th class) certificate will be considered official.
Age Relaxation
- SC/ST candidates (West Bengal) get 5 years relaxation.
- OBC candidates (West Bengal) get 3 years relaxation.
- Persons with Disabilities (PWD) get relaxation up to 45 years.
Candidates from other states will be treated as general category.
Physical Requirements (For Group B – Police Service)
- Male candidates must be at least 165 cm (1.65 meters) tall.
- Female candidates must be at least 150 cm (1.50 meters) tall.
- Candidates from certain hill tribes get relaxation in height.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have a graduation degree from a recognized university.
They must know Bengali language, except those from specific hilly regions where Nepali is spoken.

Important Rules for Candidates
