WBJS 2024 Eligibility Criteria
1. Nationality
- Citizen of India OR
- Other nationality declared eligible by the Government of India.
2. Educational Qualification
- A Degree in Law from a recognized university.
- Must be enrolled as an advocate in the Bar Council of any State/UT on the date of advertisement.
- Ability to read, write, and speak Bengali (not required for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali).
3. Age Limit (as of 07.12.2024)
- Minimum: 23 years
- Maximum: 35 years
(Born between 08.12.1989 and 07.12.2001)
Age Relaxation
- SC/ST (WB): 5 years
- OBC (NCL, WB): 3 years
- PwBD (40%+): Up to 45 years
- Government employees with 2+ years of service: 2 years
Chance Limit
- General category: Maximum 3 attempts
- SC/ST/OBC (NCL) of West Bengal: Maximum 5 attempts
WBJS 2024 Selection Process
The examination is held in three stages:
1. Preliminary Examination (MCQ Type)
- Screening test
- Only qualifying in nature
- Negative marking applicable
2. Final Examination (Conventional / Descriptive Papers)
- Written papers on law subjects
- Marks will be counted for the merit list
3. Personality Test
- Tests legal awareness, communication, and personality
- Marks added to Final Exam scores
- Final Merit = Final Written Exam + Personality Test
WBJS 2024 Syllabus Update: New Criminal Laws Implemented
As per the notification, the syllabus has been updated due to the implementation of new criminal laws on 01 July 2024.
- The following acts replace earlier IPC/CrPC/Evidence Act:
- Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023
- These updated laws will be fully applicable to WBJS 2024 Prelims & Finals.

- SC/ST (West Bengal): No fee
- PwBD (40%+): No fee
- SC/ST of other states: No exemption
